If you have been marketing on the internet for very long, you know that Twitter.com is one of the most powerful tools for building your brand and position yourself as a leader in your niche.

While everyone is running around telling you all the things you need to be doing to be a total “bombshell” on Twitter, I thought I would go ahead and write about some of the things that you should never do if you really want to be a Twitter Superstar.

1. Don’t constantly talk about yourself. Have you ever been at a party where there is that one person who just continually talks about themselves? Don’t be that person, it is annoying.

2. Don’t direct message people your spammy messages. No one want spam in their mailbox and they don’t want it in the Twitter inbox.

3. Don’t @mention people with a link to an affiliate product just to get their attention. It does not work and will only spoil your image like a old egg.

4. Don’t try and be a part of every single conversation so that everyone will know who you are. Only be a part of the conversations that you actually have value input about. Your followers will see you as more geniuine and therefore they will listen when you speak.

5. Don’t spend all day on Twitter. As incredible as social media is, too many people waste too much time then they are actually needing to. As with everything in life, take Twitter in doses.

Social media and more specifically Twitter is going to continue growing day in and day out. Over the next year, social media will continue to be a top priority on every marketing plan from the smallest home business to the largest corporations on the the planet. Learn the rules today and you can dominate tomorrow.
