So Here is the scenario, I am hanging out in the Warrior Forum the other night and a great post comes up.
The post was simply “Gurus” who email too frequently. And it really got me to thinking. How often is too often.
So what I did was break down the emails I get into a few different categories. I am no expert at email marketing, but with a couple years under my belt in this industry I can share with you what I see in my inbox and what I actually dig when it comes to emails.
There are only about five categories in my mind when it comes to most email marketers and here they are.
1. The over-mailer. This is the guy that emails two if not three times a day promoting his content, his products and different offers. Regardless of whether or not the content has value, which it usually does. Me, myself and I don’t like to have our inbox full of stuff on a regular day.
The majority of the emails will typically get deleted and I guess I am just missing out on all the value or I will just read it the next day when I get three more emails.
2. The once a week mailer. These emails either or impress me with the headline, or not. They fall into the category that I will typically read if I have time, but if I don’t will go into a folder for later.
They are typically really solid with the information that is in them, and the writer has usually sit on the email and really worked it so that it bring a good message and solid buying offer.
3. The once a dayer. This is typically one of my favorites. The information is consistently bringing a good message and a solid product offer that is intertwined into the message. They give the “what to do”, which is always insightful, but offer the “how to” in the product they have for sale.
This is typical of a lot of copywriters who use email to tighten their already killer sales copy skills.
4. The four-month promo type. This is the guy that you usually hear from every couple months who send out the same email promoting a different product. “sorry, INSERT NAME, I know it has been a couple months since we talked, but my friend is releasing a killer new product and I figured that since I have not been around awhile, I would let you in on it first. “
This is the type that drives me the most crazy…I will usually read the email, and if the product sounds decent, I won’t ever click their link, I will just go find the product online and purchase.
This is about the most UN-attractive way to build rapport and a relationship with your list.
5. The Always Promoting Type- This is the guy/gal that is constantly promoting every single click bank product that they possibly can. Their emails typically get deleted every time. I often wonder why I keep this person on my inbox list. I guess it is that at one point they actually offered me something that I wanted and then they now are attempting to extort my email address for every penny possible.
So there you have it. There may be more than five different types of email marketers but that is what I really see going on.
I don’t know which you prefer, or which you are attempting to be. But really all of these strategies seem to be working for some of the most successful marketers in our industry.
So really, I am no one to tell any one “How often is too often” but here is my suggestion. Pick style and stick with it. Consistency will always win over absolute randomness.
