If you have been on the internet long, you know that Social Media and PPC are two of the most powerful strategies for lead generation and building your list/business in the industry. But, what is it that really sets them apart? Most people you will talk to will tell you that social media is all about time, and PPC is all about money.

But really, if you have been using social media for very long, and actually having any success, I guarantee that you have spend a good chunk of money on different tools, training, widgets, custom themes and a ton of other “Not Free” aspects of the “Free” social media marketing.

Lets get a basic explanation of social media and ppc marketing!

What is social media marketing ? Social media marketing is defined as “an engagement with online communities to generate exposure, opportunity and sales.” So you have to have to actually engage with people, share your knowledge, share your life and create a persona in the industry. Many people don’t have the posture and self confidence to really put our yourself out there create the presence that you really need to create to gain a confident following.

What is PPC Marketing? PPC is Pay-Per-Click marketing, if you don’t know, it is using the search engines or any other ppc network to pay for each click that you have to your website. But in the same way, you have to spend money on a great amount of training and losses to actually fine tune a pay-per-click campaign.

Now that we have an understanding of what each form of marketing is, lets get into the nitty gritty of the two most powerful marketing strategies on the internet.

With social media, first off you have to have a following that is willing to listen to what you actually have to say. Many people get caught up in the fact that they have x amount of followers in their social communities that they forget that no matter how many people are following you, the ones that are actually listening are the only ones that matter.

Building that following can be very time consuming, BUT there are tools that can help you, even then you have to take the time to set up all the tools just like setting up a ppc campaign. But once you get it setup you can let it run on autopilot as long as it is working. In the negative, you can get caught up in the moment with social media and waste a ton of time, commenting, posting, sending thank you notes…etc

With PPC you can do some good keyword research, set up some campaigns and let them run from the rest of time. (also, if they are working good) But if you do not take the time to test your campaigns you can lose a TON of money. PPC is and always will be the dominate traffic generation method, because you can do so much in so little time

But no matter what you strategy you use, regardless of time or money, you have to have a way to recoup that cost, because lets face it….time is money in this industry. The majority of people don’t have the time and or money to sacrifice due to the economy and their J.O.B.

PPC -vs- Social Media, so which is the most powerful strategy? The key is how you can make both of them strategies to work together. How do you do that? If you are going to be a serious marketer you need to have a central location where you can send all that traffic. What is that central location? A blog. You need to put together a blog, not just any blog but a Wordpress.org blog. A wordpress.org blog (notice I did not say wordpress.com).

The wordpress platform will virtually allow you to put all of your social media and PPC into one place. Wordpress.org blogs gives you the ability to create a typical blog, capture pages, about you pages and virtually any type of page that you could use in your marketing business.
Extended Benefits of a wordpress.org blog!

1. Search engines eat up blog content, and will allow you to SEO (search engine optimize) your content.
2. Using a central location allows all that traffic to be combined, which in turn will make your site rank higher in the engines.
3. It is professional….you don’t have the www.yourblog.wordpress.com .
4. It is very easy to customize.
5. It is just flat out fun…
